House Arrest

Hrmph. I’ve been placed on house arrest.

I received the following series of text messages today (from the east coast).

First one: “(insert finger wagging and angry eyebrows)”

Second one: “Music, orange juice, sleep. You are also allowed to watch movies on Netflix, read or write”

Third one: “But you are not allowed to leave the confines of your home except to walk the dog. Or buy orange juice”

Fourth one: “Don’t make me come out there and restrain you :) (end of lecture)”

I was thinking this morning (good start). My plan of pretending not to have laryngitis and looking the other way when I blow my nose many times (wait, is that possible?) isn’t working. Clearly. I get it. But here’s the thing, sometimes it works, seriously. It just didn’t work this time.

I know you are thinking it is coincidence but let me believe I have some impact on the duration and severity of my illness!

So I am listening to Bon Iver “in its entirety,” drinking tea, writing and thinking about how I can rest but also be useful today. Can I sew? Can I do laundry? Cook? I can update the blog with pictures from Tegan’s visit. Hmm. In reality, I actually don’t feel very well at all. The nose blowing, the voice straining, the coughing and the head hurting have won. (itsy bitsy violins playing in the distance with lyrics of I told you so's)

I have in fact reached the point where napping sounds great, reading my book is about the right speed but I warn you. I WILL GET BORED. And I’ll grow weary of being alone.

SO if you want to come over and play scrabble (you might have to bring it) or bring a notepad so we can write notes or if you just want to sit on my couch while I read and write, that would be cool too. Meanwhile, Jazz, Kobe and I will be… resting. Where’s Lee Green when you need him? He would play scrabble with me.

(house arrest with bed head)

(what I'll be doing today)

(I'm drinking tea people and it is special - Susie gave it to me)

(the cat is pleased with the house arrest conditions)

(there's going to be a lot of this today - Jazz will also be bored)
